She is a daughter of personnel manager Nancy and financial executive Paul Heigl. She has German/Swiss-German and Irish roots. At the age of 9, Katherine became a child model for Wilhelmina Models. She first appeared on TV in a commercial for Cheerios cereal. Later, she was a cover girl for such magazines as Maxim, Vanity Fair and Cosmopolitan and often appeared in Seventeen. In 1992, she made her acting debut in “That Night” (1992). Her first leading role was in 1994 “My Father the Hero”. In 2005, Heigl was cast to “Grey’s Anatomy” TV series, where she played Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens. The role brought the actress fame and the world recognition.
