Katie Holmes

American actress Katie Holmes was born on December 18, 1978, in Toledo, Ohio, to attorney Martin Joseph Holmes, Sr. and homemaker Kathleen. She is the youngest of five children and has three sisters and a brother. Katie has Irish, English and German roots.

Holmes attended Notre Dame Academy in Toledo and later, became a student of Columbia University. At 14, she started to go to a modeling school. In 1997, she debuted in “The Ice Storm” movie. In 1998, she started to play in “Dawson’s Creek” TV series. The role of Joey Potter became her breakthrough one. In 1999, Katie got her first leading role in feature film “Teaching Mrs. Tingle”. Her other well known roles are in “Pieces of April” (2003), “Batman Begins” (2005), “Abandon” (2002) and “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” (2010).

Holmes made her Broadway debut in 2008 in “All My Sons” (by Arthur Miller). Her voice was also used for “Batman Begins” video game. In addition, Katie Holmes worked as a model and advertised Garnier, Coach leather goods, Gap, Miu Miu, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and IRIS Jewelry. In 2008, she launched her own clothing line “Holmes & Yang” together with stylist Jeanne Yang. In 2009, she created dance scholarship fund “Dizzy Feet Foundation” together with Nigel Lythgoe, Adam Shankman and Carrie Ann Inaba. In 2013, she became a co-owner of Alterna Haircare.

In 2006, Holmes got married to actor Tom Cruise. They have a daughter, Suri. In 2012, the couple got divorced.
