Keira Knightley

English actress Keira Knightley was born on March 26, 1985, in London to actors Will Knightley and Sharman Macdonald. She has an older brother, Caleb.

At the age of three, she asked her parents to hire an agent for her to become an actress. The parents agreed to help their daughter on condition that she would study well. Thus, Keira became one of the best pupils in her class. At 6, she started to participate in commercials and had small roles. In 1993, she received her first role in “Royal Celebration”. In 1999, she got a role in “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace” because of her resemblance to Natalie Portman, whose maid she played. In 2001, Keira played her first leading role in “Princess of Thieves”. However, her breakthrough role was the one of Elizabeth Swann in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” (2003) and later in its sequels. Knightley’s other famous movies include “Bend It Like Beckham” (2002), “Love Actually” (2003), “King Arthur” (2004), “Pride & Prejudice” (2005), “Atonement” (2007), “Anna Karenina” (2012) and “The Imitation Game” (2014).

Keira Knightley was twice nominated for the Academy Award for her roles in “Pride and Prejudice” and “The Imitation Game”. She also appeared on stage in plays “The Misanthrope” and “The Children’s Hour”. In 2015, she made her Broadway debut in “Therese Raquin”.

The actress is married to musician James Righton. The couple has a daughter, Edie.

Knightley was the face for the luxury goods brands Asprey and Shiatzy Chen as well as Chanel’s perfume Coco Mademoiselle. Like many other celebrities, she also does a lot of charitable work. She is the face of an Amnesty International campaign to support human rights and fights against domestic abuse. The actress also invests money in medical research and various charitable campaigns.
