Mya Harrison

American singer and actress Mya Harrison was born on October 10, 1979, in Washington, D.C. to musician Sherman and accountant Theresa. She has two brothers, Chaz and Nijel.

In childhood, Mya took dancing and violin lessons. Being a teenager, she studied ballet at the Dance Theater of Harlem and received an opportunity for a solo dance performance at the Kennedy Center. She also was a teacher of hip-hop and jazz dance class. In 1998, she signed a contract with Interscope Records and released her debut album “Mya”, which got a platinum certification. In 2001, Mya cooperated with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and Pink on the remake “Lady Marmalade”, which became an international success and won a Grammy award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Mia isn’t only a singer. She is a songwriter as well. She wrote the majority of her songs, She also has produced all her albums since 2000. She owns a recording studio and her own label imprint “Planet 9″.

Harrison made her acting debut in 1999 movie “In Too Deep”. However, she is best known for her roles in “Chicago” (2002), “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights” (2004), “Shall We Dance?” (2004), “Cursed” (2005) and “The Heart Specialist” (2011). In 2009, Mya participated in “Dancing with the Stars” show, where she took the second place.

Like many other celebrities, Mya Harrison took part in various advertising campaigns. At 18, she was a spokeswoman for Bongo Jeans and had a Tommy Hilfiger lipstick shade named after her. In 2001, she was chosen a spokesperson for Iceberg jeans. In 2003, she sang “Feeling Groovy” for GAP’s advertising campaign.
