Penelope Cruz

Spanish actress and model Penelope Cruz was born on April 28, 1974, in Alcobendas. Her mother is a hairdresser and the father is a retailer and car mechanic. She has sister Monica, an actress, and brother Eduardo, a musician.

In chidhood, Penelope didn’t think about the career of an actress. She was fond of dancing and studied classical ballet at Spain’s National Conservatory. Later, she attended Cristina Rota’s New York school. Being a teenager, Cruz got interested in acting and started the search of an agent. At 15, she signed a contract with a talent agency. In 1989, she appeared in the music video of Mecano “La Fuerza del Destino”. From 1990 to 1997, she hosted talk show for teenagers “La Quinta Marcha”.

In 1991, she had a small role in “Elle et lui”, French erotic TV series. In 1992, Cruz debuted in her first feature film “Jamon, jamon”. Just in a year, she was nominated for a Spanish Actors Union Newcomer Award and a Goya Award for Best Actress. In 2000, Penelope got her first leading role in “Woman on Top”. In 2001, the actress played in “Vanilla Sky”, which became the turning point in her career. Her most famous movies are “Sahara” (2005), “Bandidas” (2006), “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” (2008) and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011). She is the first Spanish actress, who received an Academy Award (in 2009) and the first Spanish actress, who got a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame (in 2011).

Penelope Cruz works as a model as well. She has modelled for Mango, Ralph Lauren and L’Oreal. She is also the face of Spanish brand “Loewe”.

Penelope is married to Spanish actor Javier Bardem. They have a son and a daughter.
