24, Oscar frontrunner “Darkest Hour” won two of its three races: special makeup effects and best period/character makeup.

It lost best period/character hairstyling to “I, Tonya.”Among those films that “Darkest Hour” edged out for best special makeup effects was “Wonder,” one of its two Oscar rivals for Best Makeup & Hairstyling.

That film contended on the contemporary side here and lost its bid for hairstyling to “Pitch Perfect 3″ and makeup to “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.
