‘A Fantastic Woman’ Wins Spirit Award for Best International Film

“A Fantastic Woman” made Chile proud on Saturday, winning the Independent Spirit Award for Best International Film.

It bested “Bpm (Beats Per Minute)” (France, dir.

Robin Campillo), “I Am Not a Witch” (UK, dir.

Rungano Nyoni), “Lady Macbeth” (UK, dir.

William Oldroyd), and “Loveless” (Russia, dir.

Andrey Zvyagintsev).

Sebastián Lelio’s drama is also up for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.Other winners at this year’s Spirit Awards include Allison Janney, who was named Best Supporting Female for her performance in “I, Tonya,” and “Ingrid Goes West,” which took home the prize for Best First Feature.This year’s ceremony once again took place live on the beach in Santa Monica, with Nick Kroll and John Mulaney hosting the broadcast for IFC.\
