Disney has shared a first look at ‘Mulan-1998-movie-posters/”>Mulan,’ the live-action adaptation of its 1998 animated film.The picture shows Yifei Liu, star of ‘The Forbidden Kingdom‘ and ‘Once Upon a Time,’ who was cast as Hua Mulan following a yearlong global casting search.As with the 1998 animated feature, the adventure centers on a fearless young woman in ancient China who masquerades as a man to fight attacking invaders.The film will shoot on locations in New Zealand and China and will open in U.S.
theaters on March 27, 2020.The cast also includes Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, and Yoson An, who is currently in theaters with ‘The Meg.”Mulan’ is being directed by Niki Caro (‘Whale Rider,’ ‘McFarland USA’) from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (‘Jurassic World‘), and Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek.Disney’s animated ‘Mulan’ starred Ming-Na Wen, Miguel Ferrer, and Eddie Murphy and was nominated for an Oscar and two Golden Globes.
