On occasion, however, the big baddies’ evil-doing stems from deep-seated pain, trauma, and tragedy incurred earlier in their lives.

These characters unleash terror upon the world as a way to achieve some sort of justice and retribution.

Villains need their souls cleansed, too.When filmmakers give their central antagonists a compelling backstory, it heightens the entire story’s emotional weight.
