‘Ingrid Goes West’ Wins Spirit Award for Best First Feature

Matt Spicer’s social media satire “Ingrid Goes West” has won the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature.

The movie took the prize over fellow nominees “Patti Cake$,” “Columbus,” “Menashe,” and “Oh Lucy!” The film first premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where Spicer took home the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.“Ingrid Goes West” stars Aubrey Plaza as a mentally unstable young woman who becomes obsessed with a Los Angeles-based social media star (Elizabeth Olsen).

Following a brief say at a mental hospital, Plaza’s character ventures to Los Angeles, where she makes it her mission to befriend her Instagram obsession — but not everything goes according to plan.
