Producer Jill Messick ‘takes own life’, was ‘collateral damage’ in Weinstein scandal

Exec worked at Miramax for five years.Studio executive and producer Jill Messick has died aged 50 in Los Angeles.In a statement, her family confirmed that she took her own life and said she had become “collateral damage” in the Harvey Weinstein scandal.Messick worked for five years at Miramax from 1997, rising to Svp Production.

Her projects there included She’s All That and Frida.

She also executive produced Mean Girls and TV series Bad Judge.This January Harvey Weinstein released a statement denying allegations by Rose McGowan that he raped her in 1997.

The statement included emails from Ben Affleck and Messick, who was McGowan’s former manager, that it said confirmed Weinstein’s account of the incident.The statement from Messick’s family said: “Seeing her name in headlines again and again, as part of one person’s attempt to gain more attention for her personal cause, along with Harvey’s desperate attempt to vindicate himself, was devastating
