‘Rampage’ Is the Highest-Rated Video-Game Movie on Rotten Tomatoes — for Now

This week in faint praise, “Rampage” — the video-game adaptation starring Dwayne Johnson, née The Rock — is the most well-received movie of its kind on Rotten Tomatoes.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that the film is only at 50%, which still classifies it as “rotten” — and speaks to how poorly movies based on video games tend to be reviewed.

(IndieWire’s David Ehrlich calls it “one of the blandest and most boring monster movies ever made.”)The previous title-holder was “Tomb Raider,” which is currently at 49%; this has apparently been a good month for such projects.

Rotten Tomatoes and Johnson have both acknowledged the feat, with the latter tweeting, “Wow! Very cool Rampage news! Not pointing to the scoreboard yet, but it seems we may have finally broken the dreaded video game curse.
