Perhaps it goes without saying, but The Miseducation of Cameron Post, based on the Ya novel of the same name, isn’t your average coming of age film.

Still, that doesn’t stop director Desiree Akhavan from slyly playing with the expectations of the genre from the very start.

Miseducation begins at what is usually the climax of other teen movies – prom.
