His brother, Clint Howard, is also an actor. The director attended John Burroughs High School and was a student of the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, though he failed to graduate. In 1959, Ron debuted in movie “The Journey”. His best works as an actor include such movies as “American Graffiti” (1973), “The Shootist” (1976) and TV series “Happy Days” (1974-1984). Howard made his directorial debut in 1977 with “Grand Theft Auto”. His other famous works include “Apollo 13” (1995), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000), “A Beautiful Mind” (2001), “The Da Vinci Code” (2006), “Angels & Demons” (2009) and “Rush” (2013). In 2001, Ron got an Academy Award for Best Director (for movie “A Beautiful Mind”). In 2003, he received the National Medal of Arts. And in 2013, he became an inductee of the Television Hall of Fame. Howard is the co-chairman of Imagine Entertainment production company. At the moment, he has produced more than 40 movies and television films. In 1975, Ron Howard married his classmate Cheryl Alley. The couple has four children: three daughters and a son. His elder daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, became a popular actress. An interesting fact is that Asteroid 12561 Howard is called after him.
