Ziyi Zhang

Chinese actress Ziyi Zhang was born on February, 1979, in Beijing, in the family of an accountant and a kindergarten teacher.

When she was 8, she started to dance and at 11, she joined the Beijing Dance Academy. At 15, Ziyi won the national youth dance championship and start to participate in TV commercials. And at 17, she became a student of the Central Academy of Drama.

At 19, Ziyi got a role in “The Road Home”, directed by famous director Zhang Yimou. This movie won the Silver Bear prize at the 2000 Berlin International Film Festival and became a good start for the career of a young actress. After playing in 2000 “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, she got the worldwide recognition. Zgang’s first American film was “Rush Hour 2″ (2001). In 2005, she played the major role in “Memoirs of a Geisha”. Despite many controversies as to the fact that a Chinese girl played a Japanese geisha, Ziyi was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress
