Whether or not you agree that “The Emoji Movie” was the Worst Picture of 2017, it’s easy to single out the Razzies as the worst “awards” show.
Routinely picking low-hanging fruit that’s already been panned rather than making even slightly bold choices, the 38-year-old institution “honored” the critically reviled “Emoji Movie” with a total of four prizes.Also singled out were “The Mummy,” for which Tom Cruise was named Worst Actor, and “Fifty Shades Darker,” which was deemed the Worst Sequel, Rip-Off, or Remake; Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” received three nominations but managed to avoid the dubious honor of actually winning.
