Back To The Box-Office Future, As The Top Ten Films Eat Market Share

Structurally, the movie box office is pointed back to the future, but with a couple of twists.

As we approached mid-July, according to data compiled by Boxofficemojo.com, the domestic box-office take for films released in 2018 was startlingly top-heavy.

According to numbers posted Friday—before the current weekend is factored in—the Top Ten films, led by Black Panther, accounted for $3.34 billion, or 58.8 percent, of the $5.68 billion in sales for 362 movies.
