‘Beautiful Boy’ First Look: Timothée Chalamet Eyes Another Oscar Nomination as Meth-Addicted Teen

The Oscars may have just taken place at the start of March, but the 2018-19 awards season is already looming with the Cannes Film Festival just two months away.

One of next year’s big contenders for Amazon Studios is “Beautiful Boy,” which marks the English-language debut of Belgian director Felix Van Groeningen.

The filmmaker is best know for “The Broken Circle Breakdown.”“Beautiful Boy” is adapted from David Sheff’s biographical book “Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction,” which recounts his struggle watching his son, Nic, fall into methamphetamine addiction.

Steve Carell is playing David in the movie, while indie breakout Timothée Chalamet is playing the meth-addicted son.

The role is expected to bring Chalamet back into the awards conversation less than a year after “Call Me by Your Name” earned him his first Oscar nomination.Amazon missed the mark during last year’s
