“Lady Bird” won the Best Screenplay Award at the 2018 Independent Spirit Awards.Accepting the award, writer-director Greta Gerwig thanked distributor A24: “You’re magic and thank you for including ‘Lady Bird’ in your family.”She also thanked actresses Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf, whom she called “the most extraordinary actresses I could ever imagine.” She finished her speech by thanking her parents and siblings, who watched her perform plays in their living room.
“I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and I’m truly so grateful and shocked.”Also nominated in this category were Azazel Jacobs for “The Lovers,” Martin McDonagh for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” Jordan Peele for “Get Out,” and Mike White for “Beatriz at Dinner.”“Lady Bird” has also earned an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Screenplay category, which will be presented during the 90th Academy Awards tomorrow night.The Indie Spirit Awards
