Ryan Reynold’s Darkest Comedy Came Out a Year Before ‘Deadpool’

In 2016, Ryan Reynolds erupted into an A-list comedy-action star via the release of Deadpool.

While the star had previously appeared in comedies such as Van Wilder, Waiting…, and the Sandra Bullock-led rom com The Proposal, his fourth wall breaking reprisal of the Merc with a Mouth — first embodied by the actor in 2009’s X-Men: Origins – Wolverine — elevated his reputation within the genre, opening the door for funnier as well as bolder films.

While Deadpool and much of Reynold’s comedic filmography since has been splatter-filled and action packed, his darkest comedy actually arrived a year before the superhero parody hit theaters, and it remains one of his most unnerving works.
