There are movies that gently tug at our heartstrings, and then there are those that mercilessly shatter our emotional defenses.
And Billy Ray’s Secret In Their Eyes, a heart-wrenching mystery drama, falls squarely into the latter category.
The movie is a remake of an Argentinian film from 2009, which, in turn, is an adaptation of a novel.
The story has indeed gone through numerous retellings, adapted across different mediums and cultures.
But its emotional core has always remained the same.
And this unchanging essence has allowed the story to remain a delicate, touching piece to be told with different characters and contexts for different times and audiences.
As a result, the American version of Secret in Their Eyes has achieved much the same while adding more in terms of an amazing cast and fresh cultural context.
