Reinventions of famous superheroes are fairly common in the comics industry, where any given creative team can tackle a well-known character for some months and put their idiosyncratic spin on them.
But they’re far less common and far more time-consuming in Hollywood.
A brand new spin on Bob Kane’s Batman, say, would be the confluence of writers, directors, and studio heads — and that’s before you add a cast’s performances, a composer’s score, and a crew of hundreds’ work to the fold.
And all their work takes years to manifest.
