  • Taxi Driver Review: A Disturbing Look at Isolation From Martin Scorsese
Even in the digital age, it’s possible to come to a classic film almost entirely unspoiled, and to be surprised. All I’d heard about Taxi Driver before this year was Robert De Niro’s “you talkin’ to me?” speech and the role the film played in John Hinckley Jr’s delusions, so it was full of surprises. […]

  • The Better Call Saul Finale Was Inspired By A Holiday Classic
For seven years, “Better Call Saul” fans have watched with rapt attention as lawyer and con man Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) transformed into sleazy crime lord Saul Goodman. The change was more gradual than expected, and more emotional, too. By the time the series finally fast-forwarded through the years between Jimmy’s breakup with Kim (Rhea […]
  • Look Both Ways review – Lili Reinhart shines in Netflix’s Sliding Doors homage
The Riverdale star plays out two different futures after an unexpected pregnancy in this warm but imbalanced exploration of ‘what if?’“What if?” is a reliably magnetic question. What if you got rejected instead of accepted, took one job over another, cut and run on a lover or stuck it out? The non-Marvel multiverse potential is […]
  • ‘Look Both Ways’ Review: Lili Reinhart Embraces a So-So ‘Sliding Doors’ Scenario
In director Wanuri Kahiu’s “Look Both Ways,” a twentysomething woman is confronted with a pivotal situation that splits her life in two, eventually landing both versions of herself at a crossroads. The film mixes the conceits of “Sliding Doors” and “For Keeps” into one refurbished product, eschewing fantasy or melodrama in favor of grounded authenticity […]
  • Batman Vs. Superman, The Old Man And The Gun, And More Projects Wolfgang Petersen Almost Directed
When Wolfgang Petersen burst onto the scene with his WWII submarine masterpiece “Das Boot,” Hollywood came calling. Any director who could pin audiences to their seats for two-and-a-half hours with a film that rarely leaves the interior of a U-boat surely had the skills to enthrall viewers with a mainstream blockbuster. While Petersen proved more […]
  • Here’s When And Why Jimmy Made That Fateful Decision In The Better Call Saul Finale
“Better Call Saul” has always made an art form out of not showing its hand too soon. It’s a show that rewards patience, not just when it comes to overarching plots and character development, but with specific scenes and episodes, too. Often, chapters will open with con man lawyer Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) or fixer Mike […]
  • Anchorman Director Adam McKay Almost Made A Movie Out Of The Boys
Not long after Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic series “The Boys” debuted in 2006, people were trying to get the series adapted to the big screen. One of those people was Seth Rogen, who pushed for an adaptation for years before finally succeeding in getting it greenlit by Amazon in 2015. He now serves […]
