Since premiering in 2001, The Proud Family has become one of Disney’s most recognized and beloved animated sitcoms.
It was a show that not only captured audiences with its distinct visuals and hysterical characters, but it also wasn’t afraid to explore cultural issues and truly push for honest and diverse representation.
There’s even an entire episode where the star of the show Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt) enters an alternate timeline where the Proud Family is living in the 1950s during the Civil Rights movement.
The fact that an animated series can pull off compelling social commentary like that and then also seamlessly make a Disney Channel feature film where the family fight a peanut-obsessed mad scientist is a telltale sign of a well-written show.
