An actor writing a role tailor-made to their strengths isn’t exactly unusual.
After all, without Chuckie in “Good Will Hunting,” we wouldn’t be living in a post-Batfleck world.
But what Idris Elba has done in “Turn Up Charlie” is different, and not necessarily for the better.
In Elba and co-creator Gary Reich’s new Netflix comedy about an aging, down-on-his-luck DJ who nannies his famous friend’s kid, the reigning Sexiest Man Alive incorporates all his lesser-known attributes into one seductive package……while everything around him is trite at best, incompetent at worst.
