Gary Gray’s “Straight Outta Compton.”He will next star as Harpo in “The Color Purple,” Warner Bros.’ upcoming musical adaptation of the famed Alice Walker novel.
Directed by Blitz Bazawule and produced by Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey, the film is slated for theatrical release on Dec.
25.Hawkins also stars in Netflix’s upcoming feature adaptation of August Wilson’s “The Piano Lesson,” a revival of the award-winning Broadway play.
The film’s all-star cast boasts Samuel L.
