‘Parasite’ Crosses $30 Million, Becomes Neon’s Top Box Office Grosser

Parasite” has now become the highest grossing release ever for U.S.

distributor Neon, grossing $2 million in its 16th weekend in release to bring its total to $30.9 million.Founded in 2017 by Tom Quinn and Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League, Neon’s first claim to fame was the Tonya Harding biopic “I, Tonya,” which won Allison Janney a Best Supporting Actress Oscar and stood as Neon’s highest grosser with $30.2 million grossed.

In passing that record, “Parasite” is the first non-English film imported from outside the U.S.

to make $30 million domestically since “Pan’s Labyrinth” grossed $37.6 million in 2006.Meanwhile, fellow Best Picture Oscar contender “Jojo Rabbit” added $1.4 million from 1,160 screens this weekend, bringing its domestic total to $25.9 million and its global total to $54.9 million.

It’s a big jump for director Taika Waititi since his 2016 breakout film “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” which grossed $5.2 million domestic and $22.8 million globally.
