‘Tenet’ Makes Solid Start in China Cinemas, Scores $7.3 Million

Tenet” got off to a solid start on its debut in Chinese theaters on Friday.

It opened on top of the box office and eased aside local champion “The Eight Hundred.”.By 7pm on opening day “Tenet” had earned RMB50 million ($7.31 million), according to the China Box Office service of Ent Group.

Including earlier previews, its total stood at RMB54 million ($7.89 million).That was a 50% share of Friday’s revenues so far and was earned from 43% of available screens nationwide.

Chinese cinemas are operating with physical distancing restrictions that currently limit seating capacity to 50% of any auditorium.Maoyan, one of China’s two largest cinema ticketing firms, showed almost identical figures.
